Superior Underwriters is a division of Groninger & Co., Inc. We operate as a General Agent/Wholesaler of Property and Casualty insurance. We market our products through Independent Agents in 10 western states.

Robert R. Groninger started Groninger & Co., Inc. in 1928 based in Seattle. Shortly thereafter, he became the first representative of the General Accident Insurance Company in Washington.

In 1967, the company purchased Superior Underwriters. This purchase brought into existence an entirely separate division of Groninger & Co., Inc. The Superior Underwriters division specialized in writing insurance for non-standard and specialty risks. In 1976, the last of the standard business connections were sold to General Accident and we have concentrated on what we are doing at this time; surplus, excess, and specialty business.

In 1993, Groninger & Co., Inc. purchased Tobey & Company of Washington and Oregon. These agencies wrote exclusively long haul trucking business. In 2000 we acquired Primex Insurance Brokers, Inc. This enabled us to operate in California as a Resident Agent, expanding our capabilities for writing business in that state.

Since the turn of the century, we have made a commitment to continued growth. In 2003, we opened GSU Insurance Services in Draper, Utah to better serve the needs of our Intermountain West agents. We brought Primex Insurance Brokers to the next level by offering a full range of Personal Lines products.
